8 killed, 13 injured in Dhaka-Sylhet Hwy collision

At least eight were killed while 13 others critically injured in a head-on collision between two passenger buses on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Osmaninagar upazila on Friday, August 7 morning.
The incident occurred around 7:30AM in the Kashikapan area under Dayamir union.
Two of the deceased were identified as Pritom Saptam Roy, 22, son of Uttam Roy from Sobhanighat in Sylhet city, and three-year-old Zaifa, daughter of Jahangir Sheikh from Bikrampur, Dhaka.
Identities of the remaining six victims could not be known immediately.
Police confirmed, a Dhaka-bound Unique Paribahan bus collided head-on with a Sylhet-bound Bengal Paribahan bus. The impact knocked the Unique Paribahan bus off the highway and sent it plunging into a roadside ditch.
Six passengers of the Unique bus died on the spot. Two others, including the child, succumbed to their injuries after being rushed to the hospital.
Upon receiving information, teams from Sherpur Highway Police, Osmaninagar Police Station, and the Fire Service rushed to the scene. They joined local residents in recovering the bodies and rescuing the injured.
The injured were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Doctors reported several of them under critical condition.
Sherpur Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Anisur Rahman said vehicular movement on the highway was temporarily disrupted following the crash but returned to normal shortly after. Legal procedures regarding the incident are currently underway.
