A truck driver was killed and two others were critically injured in a collision between two trucks in the Borodah Madrasa area of Shailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah.
The accident occurred at around 11:30PM on Thursday (6 August).
The deceased is identified as Tufan Das, 31. He was the son of Haripada Das and a resident of Sonabaria village in Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira district.
According to police and fire service officials, a sand-laden truck travelling from Kushtia collided with a paddy-laden truck coming from the opposite direction in the Borodah Madrasa area on the Jhenaidah-Kushtia highway.
The incident left Tufan Das, the driver of the sand-laden truck, trapped inside the vehicle's cabin. The assistant of the sand-laden truck and the driver of the paddy-laden truck were also sustained serious injuries.
Acting on the information, a team from the Shailkupa Fire Service rushed to the scene.
They rescued two injured men and admitted them to Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex. Fire-fighters spent nearly an hour cutting through the truck's cabin to free the trapped driver.
However, Tufan Das died before he could be rescued.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Arappur Highway Police Station Jahanur Ali said one person was killed in the head-on collision. The body has been recovered and sent to the morgue of Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital.
