Salman takes step to build 500 homes for flood victims

Report says 220 houses have already been completed

According to a Mid-day report, construction work is already underway in Nepali Khuti, one of the villages most severely affected by the floods. Around 220 semi-permanent homes have reportedly been completed in the first phase and are now being handed over to families.The report further claimed that Salman decided to accelerate the rehabilitation project after watching videos of actor Randeep Hooda participating in relief work on the ground. It added that the two later connected through a mutual friend to discuss the requirements of the ongoing relief mission.

How the collaboration came together

According to the report, "Randeep told Salman that under Global Sikhs’ relief efforts, 70 of them were working together. 

He also shared what they needed at the moment. Amarpreet Singh, the founder of Global Sikhs, told Salman that they were planning to build semi-permanent homes, made of bamboo and tin sheds, that would be flood-proof and that each would cost between Rs 35,000 and Rs 40,000. Salman immediately joined hands with the foundation, and together they pledged to set up 500 houses."The report added that the proposed houses are being constructed using bamboo and tin sheets so they can withstand future flooding while remaining affordable and quick to build.

NGO founder shares update on the project

Speaking to Mid-day, Amarpreet Singh, founder of Global Sikhs, shared details about the ongoing work and Salman's reported involvement.He said, “Salman Khan spoke to us a few days ago and said, ‘Aap log fikar mat karo’. Right now, Sivasagar is the worst affected and its epicentre is Nepali Khuti. In the first phase of building, 220 houses have been completed, and we’re distributing them to each family. We can build eight to 10 houses a day."According to Amarpreet Singh, construction is progressing steadily, with multiple homes being completed every day. The initiative aims to provide safe shelter to hundreds of families who have been left homeless by the floods.

Assam flood situation remains critical

Even as rehabilitation efforts continue, Assam remains affected by severe flooding. According to The Hindu, the situation continued to be grim on August 5 after overnight rainfall raised fears of fresh inundation in several low-lying areas.The report stated that the flood-related death toll had risen to 89. More than 1.22 lakh people across five districts continued to be affected. Relief and rehabilitation work is ongoing.
