11 injured in clashes after attack on ex-student coordinator in Noakhali

At least 11 people were injured in clashes in Chatkhil upazila of Noakhali on Monday following an alleged attack on a former coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

The clashes occurred in Hatpukuria Union in the afternoon and again around 10pm.

According to locals and eyewitnesses, a group allegedly led by Hatpukuria Union Jubo League President Shahabuddin and his brother, known as “Sohag Dakat”, attacked former Chatkhil coordinator Samir Hossain. BNP and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leaders who went to rescue him were also allegedly attacked.

Later that night, three Jamaat-Shibir activists were injured in another attack near Chatkhil Police Station.

Activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, BNP and Jamaat-Shibir subsequently launched a counterattack, injuring five people, including Shahabuddin and Sohag.

All 11 injured were taken to local hospitals.

Chatkhil Police Station OC Abdul Manna said both sides have filed written complaints and police are investigating the incidents. Legal action will be taken against those found responsible.
