Civil Judge killed in Jamalpur road crash

An Assistant Judge of the Jamalpur District Judges’ Court was killed in a road accident while moving towards his workplace on Monday (August 10).
The deceased was identified as AKM Samiul Haque Arnob, 27, Assistant Judge of the District judges’ Court and Civil Judge of Islampur Civil Court. He was the son of former Secretary AKM Fazlul Hoque Kashem, hailing from Chichrakanda village in Raypur Union under Barhatta Upazila of Netrokona district.
The accident also left his private car driver, Idris Ali, 44, critically injured.
The crash took place around 4:30AM in the Lahirikanda area of Jamalpur Sadar Upazila on the Jamalpur-Mymensingh highway.
Jamalpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Najmus Sakib said Samiul Haque was returning to Jamalpur from Lalmatia in the capital by a private car. On the way, the vehicle slammed into a rod-laden stationary truck at Lahirikanda. Samiul Haque died on the spot.
Police and Fire Service personnel recovered the body and sent it to a morgue for an autopsy.
The OC added that the truck driver and helper had parked the vehicle on the road and fell asleep after one of its tyres punctured. Legal action will be taken in this regard.
Injured driver Idris Ali was admitted to Jamalpur General Hospital in critical condition.
Expressing deep grief, Jamalpur District Bar Association Vice-President Advocate Abdul Awal said the young judge belonged to the 17th batch of the Bangladesh Judicial Service. He was known for his sincerity and politeness.
A funeral prayer (Namaz-e-Janaza) was held on the court premises at 10:30AM. District and Sessions Judge Rezaul Karim, alongside lawyers and court officials, attended the prayer.
