Two establishments fined for dirty kitchen and smoking violations

Two establishments were fined a total of Tk 2,500 following mobile court operations in the Jettyghat and Notunbazar areas of Kaptai Upazila, Rangamati, for concerns over smoking violations and their kitchens for being unclean.

The drive was conducted by Nelly Rudra, the Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Kaptai Upazila, on Wednesday (September 9) between 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM in the Jettyghat area (Ward No. 4) and Notunbazar area (Ward No. 5) of Kaptai Union (Union No. 4).

During the operation, Md. Sohel (40), owner of 'Lake Haven Hotel' at Jettyghat Bazar, was fined Tk. 2,000 under the relevant section of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, for maintaining an unsanitary kitchen. Additionally, Fakhrul Islam, owner of 'Mizan Cooling Corner' at Notunbazar, was fined Tk. 500 under Section 8 of the Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Act, 2005.

Md. Shahadat, Senior Station Officer of Kaptai Fire Service and Civil Defence, and SI Md. Tanvir of Kaptai Police Station assisted in conducting the mobile court. During the drive, traders were advised on the necessity of keeping fire-extinguishing equipment in their shops and establishments.

They were also warned to maintain cleanliness and comply with existing laws in the interest of public health and safety.
