The pass rate in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations has increased slightly under the Barishal Education Board this year while the number of GPA-5 achievers has declined.

The results were published nationwide on Monday. The board recorded a pass rate of 60.35 per cent. A total of 2,778 students secured GPA-5.

A total of 15 educational institutions achieved a 100 per cent pass rate. In contrast, no student passed the SSC examinations from five institutions.

Last year, the pass rate was 56.38 per cent. This year's rate is 3.97 percentage points higher. The number of GPA-5 holders, however, dropped from 3,114 to 2,778.

That means 336 fewer students achieved the highest grade.

The longer term picture is less encouraging. In 2024, the pass rate was 89.13 per cent. A total of 6,145 students obtained GPA-5 that year.

In 2023, the pass rate stood at 90.18 per cent. Around 6,000 students earned GPA-5.

Compared with those two years, the board's overall performance remains much lower.

Although the pass rate has improved from last year, it is still far below the levels recorded in 2023 and 2024.
