7 injured in clash over football match at IU

The clash took place at the university’s central football field during an inter-department and inter-hall football tournament involving the Accounting and Information Systems Department and the Islamic History and Culture Department.

The incident began in the final moments of the match when the ball went out for a throw-in. Accounting and Information Systems student Mashiur went to collect the ball, leading to an argument with students of the Islamic History and Culture Department over an alleged delay in returning it.

The argument later turned into a clash as students from both sides allegedly used sticks.

The injured include Humayun Kabir of the Islamic History and Culture Department and Mashiur, Alif Khan, Alif Rahat and Tofazzal of the Accounting and Information Systems Department, along with two others.

They were taken to the university medical centre. Later, Alif Khan was referred to Kushtia Sadar Hospital for better treatment.

Students from both departments blamed each other for starting the clash.

University medical centre physician Dr Badiuzzaman said several injured students received treatment, with some suffering head, lip and dental injuries.
