Students of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) staged a midnight protest and locked the Vice-Chancellor's residence gate following the government's sudden decision to replace the university's top administrator.

Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) erupted in protests late Monday night over the removal of Vice-Chancellor Prof Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem.

Agitating students brought out a protest procession from the campus Independence Square around 10:30 PM, demanding the immediate reinstatement of the former VC.

Earlier in the evening, the government removed Prof Sayem and appointed Prof Sheikh Shariful Alam of KUET as the new CUET Vice-Chancellor. The announcement triggered widespread anger among general students across the campus.

Female students broke dormitory curfews to join the agitation. Halls usually close at 8:00 PM, but female students came out around 11:00 PM to march with fellow protesters.

The procession paraded through major campus roads, academic buildings, female halls, and faculty residential areas before concluding back at Independence Square around 12:00 AM.

Later, angry students gathered outside the Vice-Chancellor's official residence and locked the main gate in protest.
