The nomination paper of LDP Chairman Oli Ahmed to contest the presidential election has been collected on Monday by a delegation of Jamaat- led 11 party alliance from the Election Commission.
Speaking to reporters later, Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad said Oli Ahmed could have been an acceptable candidate.
“Because of the BNP's double standards, or its lack of a positive attitude towards reforms, the nation has been deprived,” Azad said.
Asked why the Jamaat-led alliance had fielded a candidate when the ruling party's candidate was expected to win, Azad said winning or losing was not the main issue.
He said the alliance wanted to keep the democratic process alive.
