Acting Speaker, CEC to meet over presidential election today

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin is scheduled to meet Acting Speaker Kaiser Kamal today to discuss final preparations for the presidential election.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 11am at the Acting Speaker’s office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, according to sources at the Parliament Secretariat and Election Commission (EC).

Officials from the Parliament Secretariat and the EC, including the CEC, election commissioners and relevant officials, are expected to attend the meeting. They will discuss preparations for the presidential election.

According to the election schedule, voting will be held in the Jatiya Sangsad chamber from 2pm to 5pm on August 20 if there is more than one candidate.

The opposition Jamaat-e-Islami-led alliance has already nominated LDP Chairman Col (retd) Oli Ahmed as its presidential candidate. The ruling BNP has yet to announce its candidate.
