Iran demands compensation for war damages, US troops withdrawal

TEHRAN, Aug 10: Iran presented six conditions to the US, including troop withdrawal and war damage compensation, stating, “The Hormuz Strait will not reopen until the US fulfills these demands.” On the same day, Mohammad BagherZolghadr, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, announced this stance, adding, “We will never retreat, whether in war or negotiations.” The statement came as Iran and Oman, a neighboring country to the Hormuz Strait, were discussing measures to resume passage through the strait.


These conditions are difficult for the Donald Trump administration to accept. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) noted, “Iranian hardliners, including the Revolutionary Guard, are raising the negotiation threshold,” adding, “The outlook for talks is dimming.” The New York Times (NYT) also stated, “Expectations that the Iran-Oman negotiations would reopen the Hormuz Strait have been overturned.”

Iran is intensifying pressure on the USSardarMohavi, a spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said, “The reopening of the strait is unrelated to negotiations with Oman. The US must fully accept Iran’s conditions and cease interference in regional negotiations for the Hormuz Strait to open.”

Iranian President MasoudPezeshkian, a moderate, stated at a press conference in Tehran, “The US, a colonialist criminal state, is not upholding the MOU agreement.” Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi added, “Negotiations with Oman have nearly reached an agreement, but reopening the Hormuz Strait is only possible after compensation for the US’s MOU violations.”

US Vice President JD Vance, in a Fox News interview, said regarding the current situation, “We are in the middle of the game. While we received promises from Iran to stop imposing tolls on merchant ships and firing, their words alone are insufficient; we must observe their actions.” He also noted, “We are discussing safe passage for ships with Gulf states,” but emphasized, “Normalization of passage can only occur after Iran removes mines it has laid.”�"AGENCIES
