Giant tree uproots in Dhanmondi, crushes 3 cars

A large tree was uprooted and fell onto a road in the capital's Dhanmondi area, severely damaging three private cars.

None was injured in the incident, which occurred at around 7:45PM on Monday (August 10).

Traffic police said heavy rain had been falling across the capital since the evening, slowing traffic on the roads. Suddenly, a huge tree standing on the pavement at the Abahani Field area of Dhanmondi Road 12/A was uprooted and crashed onto the road at a four-way intersection.

At the time, three private cars were passing through the area and were badly damaged after being struck by the falling tree. No casualties were reported.

Shubhra Deb, assistant commissioner (traffic) of the Dhanmondi zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said the tree was suddenly uprooted amid the rain and fell onto the vehicles, leaving them badly mangled.
