No decision yet on PM’s India visit: FM

Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman on Monday said that no policy decision has been made yet regarding the Prime Minister's visit to India.
He made the statement while responding to reporters' queries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday afternoon. Earlier in the morning, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister at the Secretariat.
Addressing a question, the Foreign Minister said, "Invitations exist from both the Indian government and BIMSTEC. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent an invitation on the day his government was formed. However, the government has not yet taken any policy decision on whether the Prime Minister will visit India. The matter will be considered at an appropriate time."
Dr. Khalilur Rahman said discussions took place during the morning bilateral meeting regarding the extradition of convicted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
"India was urged to expedite the extradition process of Sheikh Hasina. We hope India will respond positively and responsibly," he added.
The Foreign Minister expressed anger over Sheikh Hasina's political remarks from New Delhi and recent incidents surrounding the judiciary.
"The judiciary is one of the three main pillars of the state. An independent court in Bangladesh convicted her. If she has anything to say, she should present it in court. Instead, she is belittling the country's judiciary, and the Indian government is allowing her that opportunity. We expect no foreign government to allow anyone to undermine Bangladesh's state infrastructure," he stated.
Following discussions with the High Commissioner, the Foreign Minister expressed hope that such incidents would not recur.
He also stressed resolving border killings and 'push-in' issues through regular bilateral talks alongside discussions at the prime-ministerial level.
