Govt working to improve ties with India

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has said there are no insurmountable problems between Bangladesh and India and that the government is working to resolve bilateral issues through dialogue.

He made the remarks while responding to journalists’ questions after an event organised at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Wednesday to mark International Youth Day.

The minister said Indian Ambassador Dinesh Trivedi had told Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during a meeting that there was no crisis between the two countries that could not be resolved.

“He went to speak with Narendra Modi carrying positive messages from Bangladesh. We are waiting for positive results,” Swapan said.

Asked about rumours circulating on social media that the government may lift its ban on the Awami League, the minister said the government had not taken notice of such reports and was not paying attention to them.

He also said the government was working to help young people develop themselves and prepare for future challenges in the age of artificial intelligence.

Youth and Sports State Minister Aminul Haque attended the event as a special guest.
