GAZIPUR, Aug 12: The first seminar to evaluate the research activities of researchers of the PhD programme run by the Open School of Bangladesh Open University (BOU) was held in the Teachers’ Conference Room of BOU’s main campus in Gazipur on Monday.
Two researchers from the PhD programme presented their research work at the seminar. Major Kaiser Milon presented a research paper titled “Challenges and Opportunities in Preserving the History of Border Security: A Study of the Border Guard Bangladesh Museum” and Major M Zahid Hasan Maruf presented a research paper titled “Security Measures and Military Strategies in the Independent Bengal Sultanate (1352-1576): A Cultural Historical Study of Defensive and Offensive Tactics”.
BOU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr Anisur Rahman and Treasurer Professor Dr Sheikh Rafiqul Islam delivered valuable speeches at the seminar. Congratulating the new researchers, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr Anisur Rahman said, “Research is the process of searching for, analysing and creating new information about a subject or problem in a systematic and scientific manner. Through this, the authenticity of existing knowledge is verified, new ideas are invented and solutions to problems are found. Research is a planned and evidence-based search for knowledge. Today’s efforts will be the path for tomorrow.”
The supervisor of the two studies was Dr Md Adnan Arif Salim, Associate Professor of the Open School of BOU. The seminar was attended by external members including Dr Syed Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, Professor of the Department of Archaeology of Jahangirnagar University, Dr Sheikh Moniruddin Jewel, Professor of the Department of History of Art of Dhaka University, Dr Md Abul Kalam Azad, Professor of the Department of Islamic History and Culture of Dhaka University, and Dr Md Mizanur Rahman, Professor of the Department of Archaeology of Jahangirnagar University. Also present at the seminar were the Chairperson of the Research Coordination Committee and Dean of the Open School, Professor Dr Md Shirin Sultana.
