Four new roads to ease woes of Segunbagicha residents in Cox's Bazar

COX’S BAZAR, Aug 12: Construction of four roads has begun in the Segunbagicha residential area of southeast Ghonarpara under Ward 9 of Cox’s Bazar Municipality, funded by the municipal authorities.
The work resumed at Baytunnur Jam-e-Mosque Road on Saturday morning after remaining suspended for several days due to rain.
Local residents and community leaders were present when the construction work resumed, including Advocate AHM Shahjahan, General Secretary of the Ghonarpara Boro Graveyard Community Committee; Saimun Amin, General Secretary of the Segunbagicha Residential Area Community Committee; and Journalist Rashedul Majid, General Secretary of the Baytunnur Jam-e-Mosque Management Committee.
Other community members and residents also attended the programme.
Rashedul Majid said the Segunbagicha residential area, stretching from Alamgir Tower to Badshaghona in southeast Ghonarpara, had long been neglected in terms of development.
He said residents had regularly paid municipal taxes, but the roads in the area had not received necessary development work.
As a result, students, patients, pedestrians and other residents had faced considerable difficulties, particularly during the rainy season.
Majid thanked the Cox’s Bazar municipal administrator, executive engineer, assistant engineer, sub-assistant engineer, administrative officials and other authorities for finally taking steps to improve the roads.
According to the municipality, the four roads were taken up for construction following a request from the Segunbagicha Residential Area Community Committee.
The roads include one from the main road of Segunbagicha residential area to the house of Kefayet Ullah Abu; another from the main road to the house of Principal Mohammad Ibrahim; a third from the main road to Mobarak’s house; and the fourth from the main road to the far end of Baytunnur Jam-e-Mosque.
Residents said the construction of the roads would improve communication in the neighbourhood and reduce their long-standing suffering.
They also expressed hope that the work would be completed within the stipulated time and according to the required standards.
