EC decision on Gazi Nazrul’s MP status likely soon 

 
The parliamentary secretariat is preparing to seek the Election Commission’s (EC) decision on the parliamentary membership of Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam, who was expelled from Jamaat-e-Islami following allegations of moral misconduct after private videos involving him were circulated on social media.
The secretariat is expected to send a formal letter to the EC soon after Jamaat informed the Speaker and the commission of its organisational action against the lawmaker. Meanwhile, there is speculation that Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar may contest from the constituency.
Jamaat Press Wing spokesperson ABM Asad told The Daily Observer that the party had requested the Speaker to take necessary steps in accordance with parliamentary rules and procedures.
Asad also rejected speculation that Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar had been selected to contest from Satkhira-4 if the seat becomes vacant.
