New Commission to review graft allegations against ex-Prez: ACC Secy

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will take necessary action on corruption allegations against former president Md Shahabuddin after a new commission is constituted, ACC Secretary Md Saidur Rahman Khan said on Wednesday.
“All these allegations are taken up through the commission. We hope a new commission will be formed soon. After that, necessary action will be taken after reviewing the complaint,” he told reporters in response to a question at the ACC premises.
He said that the ACC currently has no commission in place and therefore could not proceed with such complaints. The statement came after Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC filed a complaint with the ACC against former president Shahabuddin, S Alam and 38 others, accusing them of embezzling Tk 5 billion through irregular loan transactions.
According to the complaint, Mohammad Yasin Ali, Assistant Vice President of Islami Bank's Foreign Exchange Corporate Branch, alleged that S Alam Group, after taking control of the bank, facilitated the embezzlement by manipulating the credit limit of a financially distressed institution through forged documents.
The complaint alleges that businessman S Alam played a role in illegally sanctioning loans in favour of Suprav Composite Net Limited, an associate company of Yunus Badal of Anontex Group.
