Significant load shedding occurred across various regions of Bangladesh relative to power demand.
Total load shedding across nine zones reached 3,007 MW during the evening peak hour at 9:00 PM. Total electricity demand in these zones stood at 18,108 MW at that time.
The data came from an analysis of Power Grid Bangladesh PLC reports on Wednesday (August 12) night.
Zone-wise data shows the Mymensingh zone suffered the highest load shedding relative to demand. Power demand in the zone was 1,603 MW against a load shedding of 490 MW. About 30.6 per cent of Mymensingh's total demand remained unsupplied.
Barishal zone ranked second in load shedding rate. It recorded 152 MW of load shedding against a demand of 579 MW, or nearly 26.3 per cent.
Rangpur faced 296 MW of load shedding against 1,272 MW demand, reaching nearly 23.3 per cent. Sylhet registered 191 MW of load shedding against 824 MW demand, accounting for around 23.2 per cent.
Cumilla zone recorded 368 MW of load shedding against 1,743 MW demand, or roughly 21.1 per cent. Rajshahi faced 361 MW of load shedding against 1,886 MW demand, representing 19.1 per cent.
Khulna saw 356 MW of load shedding against 2,099 MW demand, which was nearly 17 per cent.
Chattogram zone had a demand of 1,670 MW and load shedding of 208 MW, or 12.5 per cent of its demand. Dhaka zone recorded the lowest proportion of load shedding. It faced 585 MW of load shedding against 6,432 MW demand, or nearly 9.1 per cent.
However, the picture changes in terms of absolute volume. Dhaka zone experienced the highest volume of load shedding at 585 MW.
Mymensingh followed with 490 MW, Cumilla with 368 MW, Rajshahi with 361 MW, Khulna with 356 MW, and Rangpur with 296 MW.
Dhaka led in total power deficit volume, but Mymensingh suffered the worst shortage relative to regional demand. Overall nationwide load shedding reached 3,007 MW against 18,108 MW demand, or 16.6 per cent.
