In order to prevent sabotage and any untoward incidents on August 15, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has tightened security across the capital by deploying additional forces, intensifying check-posts and searches, and expanding intelligence surveillance.
According to the sources, specialised units, including SWAT, bomb disposal and K-9 teams, have been placed on alert to prevent sabotage, disorder and other untoward incidents.
DMP’s specialised units including Detective Branch (DB) and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit have been assigned operational duties.
Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have also been kept on standby around the clock to deal with any emergency.
DMP said the use of modern technology has been increased. Capital’s important installations remain under CCTV and drone surveillance. City Special Branch (CTSB) and Intelligence Analysis Division (IAD) are in intelligence and monitoring services in plainclothes. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) coordinate with DMP.
Law enforcement sources said special vigilance is being maintained to prevent activities of leaders and activists of various banned and suspended organizations on the day.
DMP said senior police officials will directly supervise security arrangements in the field to ensure normal movement of city residents and the safety of lives and property.
Police have urged residents to immediately inform the nearest law enforcement agency if they notice any suspicious person, object or unusual activities.
