Most of BNP govt’s six-month targets met: Rizvi 

 
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has claimed that most of the election promises and programmes set by the BNP government for its first six months have been implemented, with the pace of work expected to increase in the coming months.
He made the statement at an urgent press conference at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan on Friday afternoon.
Rizvi said the government had met almost all of its six-month targets.
“If not 100 per cent somewhere, then 95 per cent or 90 per cent. In some places, it has been 100 per cent,” he said.
He described the first six months as a period of preparation and administrative work, saying time was needed to establish the necessary structures and complete administrative preparations for implementing the government's programmes.
He expressed hope that the programmes would be implemented more quickly and strongly during the next six months.
"It will accelerate more vigorously in the next six months and the programmes will be implemented successfully," Rizvi said.
He said the government would provide journalists with a written account of its achievements after completing six months. The report will include detailed statistics on various programmes, including Family Cards, Farmer Cards and canal excavation.
Responding to a question about BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's resignation after being nominated for the presidential post, Rizvi said there was no conflict between Fakhrul's earlier statement and that of the Social Welfare Minister.
"There is no legal obligation to resign from a party post or any other government post before taking the oath," he said. However, he added that Fakhrul had decided to resign from the post of party secretary general for moral reasons.
At the beginning of the press conference, Rizvi highlighted different aspects of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's political life.
He said Khaleda Zia had never deviated from her commitment to establishing freedom, sovereignty and democracy. Rizvi also highlighted her role in the anti-Ershad movement, saying she was the embodiment of the movement led by students and the people and its main source of inspiration.
Asked about possible organisational changes following a Facebook post by Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin, Rizvi said he had not yet received any instructions regarding the matter.
