Thirteen students were injured in a clash over a mobile phone status between two groups at Bangladesh Sweden Polytechnic Institute in Kaptai upazila of Rangamati.
The incident occurred around 10:30PM on Friday and continued until midnight.
A seven-member investigation committee has been formed headed by Automobile Department Chief Engineer Rahmat Ullah to investigate the incident.
The injured students are Hossain Nur Abid, Mostafa Obaidul, Takbir Habib, Arafat Abib, Imran, Abdullah Al Tawsif Abid, Al Amin, Aditya Roy, Md Hasan Khandaker, Meherab Hossain Hira, Mostakin, Tarek Hossain and Zahid.
Acting Principal of Bangladesh Sweden Polytechnic Institute Jahangir Hossain said tensions escalated into a confrontation between the two groups of students at a dormitory around 10:30PM over the regional forums and a mobile phone status. The argument eventually turned into a clash, leaving 13 students from both the groups injured.
The institute authorities sent the injured students to Chattogram Medical College Hospital around 1AM for treatment.
On information, a police force led by Kaptai Police Station Officer in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan Rubel rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The students from both groups were dispersed and the situation was brought back to normal, said Additional Superintendent of Kaptai Circle Police Zahidul Islam.
Meanwhile, hostel superintendent Abdul Mannan said the incident originated from a dispute involving two regional forums and a mobile phone status.
Security has been tightened on the campus following the incident.
