4 railway employees sacked over assault on RU student

Four Bangladesh Railway employees have been temporarily suspended over allegations of assaulting a student of Rajshahi University (RU) by Railway Security Force personnel and ticket checkers (TTs).

They were suspended in an office order signed by NRB Chief Commandant Md Ashabul Islam late Sunday night.

The suspended employees are Arif Hossain, Rokon Uddin, Shafiqul Islam and Shahadat Hossain.

The office order said the four employees were suspended for their suspected involvement in an untoward incident at Rajshahi Railway Station. They have been instructed to report daily under the commandant/headquarters until further orders.

Earlier, around 9:30 PM on Sunday, Railway Security Force members and TTs allegedly assaulted Ayub, a student of the Department of Islamic History and Culture at Rajshahi University, at the entrance of Rajshahi Railway Station.

Protesting the incident, RU students besieged the railway station around 11:30 PM. Following the student blockade, the railway authorities cancelled the journey of the Dhumketu Express.
