Bangladesh Coast Guard rescued a ship crew member alive after he fell into a river in the Angtihara area of the Sundarbans on Saturday (August 15).
The rescued crew was identified as Md Nazmul, 22, hailing from Mirzaganj upazila in Patuakhali district.
Coast Guard West Zone Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Mahbub Hossain confirmed the matter on Sunday (August 16).
He said the commercial vessel MV Alfadanga Pride entered Bangladesh carrying fly ash from India on Saturday.
Around 12:00 PM, while the vessel was anchored in the Angtihara area near the Shakbaria River in the Sundarbans, Nazmul accidentally fell into the river while working on the upper deck.
A routine patrol team from the Coast Guard Station Koyra spotted the incident, rescued him immediately, and safely boarded him back onto the vessel.
Lieutenant Commander Mahbub added that the Coast Guard will continue such emergency rescue operations in the future.
