Daughter-in-law allegedly pays Tk 50,000 to kill father-in-law in Sunamganj; 3 arrested

Police have arrested three people, including a woman, over the alleged strangulation death of an elderly man in Dowarabazar upazila of Sunamganj.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Ali, 75, of Sonapur village under Narsingpur Union. He was allegedly strangled in his bedroom around midnight on Friday.
The arrested suspects are Ali’s daughter-in-law Hosna Begum, 38, wife of expatriate Ismail Mia; Ruhul Amin, 22; and Nazrul Islam, 20.
According to police and a case filed by the victim’s granddaughter, Hosna allegedly hired Ruhul to kill her father-in-law for Tk 50,000 following a dispute over ownership of his land.
The complaint alleges that Hosna opened the back door of the house on the night of the incident, allowing Ruhul, Nazrul and another man to enter Ali’s room. They allegedly strangled him with a towel before fleeing.
The following morning, Hosna allegedly attempted to portray the death as natural and began arranging the burial. Locals became suspicious after noticing blood on Ali’s face and marks around his neck and informed police.
Dowarabazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tarikul Islam Talukdar said police recovered the body and sent it for autopsy.
He said Hosna was taken into custody and questioned, during which she allegedly confessed to the killing.
The three suspects were produced before a court and sent to jail on Sunday. Police are continuing efforts to arrest the other accused, who remain at large.
