The Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) has fined seven food businesses a total of Tk 10 lakh during week-long drives across the country to ensure food safety.

Seven cases were also filed against the businesses, according to a BFSA press release issued on Sunday.

Between August 9 and 15, mobile courts, monitoring and awareness activities were conducted in Dhaka and several other districts under the Food Safety Act 2013.

Three businesses in the Dhaka metropolitan area were fined Tk 4 lakh, while four businesses in Brahmanbaria, Moulvibazar, Dhaka and Manikganj were fined Tk 6 lakh.

The authority also monitored 130 businesses, including markets, hotels, restaurants, bakeries and food-processing establishments, during the period.

BFSA Chairman Md Shafiqul Islam said ensuring food safety was one of the government’s priorities and that enforcement, monitoring and awareness activities would continue in the public interest.
