As former BNP secretary general and LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul has become a presidential candidate, his Thakurgaon-1 constituency has fallen vacant.
Internet personality Ashraful Alom, widely known as Hero Alom has announced that he will contest the vacant seat as an independent candidate.
Hero Alom frequently sparks public debate with his election bids. His latest decision has created fresh discussions in the political arena.
"I announced my candidacy for a Satkhira constituency a few days ago. I had no idea Mirza Fakhrul's seat would become vacant," Hero Alom told the media.
"If I had known, I wouldn't have chosen Satkhira. People in my locality advised me to stay in the northern region since I am a boy from Bogura," he added.
"Keeping this in mind, I will contest for Mirza Fakhrul's Thakurgaon-1 seat," Alom further said.
He confirmed he will not run under any political banner and will participate as an independent candidate.
However, the Election Commission has not yet announced the by-election schedule. The formal process of submitting and scrutinising nomination papers is still pending.
Hero Alom's candidacy will be finalised only after the commission completes its official procedures.
The upcoming by-election in Thakurgaon has already generated significant political interest, which intensified further following Alom's announcement.
