Youth killed in clash over extortion share in Dhaka

A youth was killed in a violent clash between two rival groups over sharing extortion money at the East Bengal Super Market in Sadarghat under Sutrapur Police Station in the capital on Saturday (August 15).
The deceased was identified as Md Mitul Sardar, 25, son of Md Russel Sardar of Shahabanggal village under Nathullabad Union in Jhalakathi district.
Local sources said Mitul was a member of the 37 No. Ward Sechchhasebak Dal under Kotwali Police Station in Dhaka.
According to local sources and eyewitnesses, a dispute broke out among followers of Dhaka South City Shramik Dal Convener Md Suman Bhuiyan over sharing extortion money collected from the market.
At one stage, followers of former Jubo Dal leader Sobhan clashed with supporters of Dhaka South City Chhatra Dal Senior Joint Convener Kiran around 11:00 PM.
During the clash, miscreants allegedly stabbed Mitul with a pair of tailoring scissors. He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, where attending doctors declared him dead.
Another person sustained injuries during the incident.
As news of Mitul's death spread, relatives gathered at the hospital premises and staged demonstrations demanding justice.
Police said the clash primarily stemmed from a previous feud. An investigation is underway to identify the culprits and determine the exact cause of the violence.
Legal action against those involved in the incident is currently in progress, police added.
