A fire broke out at a five-storey hotel in West Bengal’s Tarapith around 4 AM Monday, killing six people. The victims were reportedly pilgrims who had travelled to the area for Shravan prayers.
The fire started on the ground floor of Hotel Bideshini, with an electrical short circuit suspected to be the cause. Most guests were asleep when the flames and smoke quickly spread through the building, trapping several people inside.
Firefighters arrived with two vehicles and brought the blaze under control after a prolonged operation. Several injured people were rescued and taken to Rampurhat Medical College Hospital.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
