Two more children have died while undergoing treatment with measles-like symptoms at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, raising the death toll to 70 since mid-March.
The hospital confirmed the deaths in a press release issued on Monday.
Hospital sources said 22 children with measles-like symptoms were admitted in the past 24 hours, while 25 recovered and were discharged. A total of 86 children are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
According to the press release, 3,461 children with measles-like symptoms have been admitted to the hospital since mid-March. Of them, 3,005 have recovered and returned home, while 70 have died.
Dr Main Uddin, assistant director (administration) of the hospital, said a five-month-old boy from Sreepur, Gazipur, died in the past 24 hours, while a seven-month-old girl from Mymensingh Sadar died in the preceding 24 hours.
“The measles outbreak has not subsided yet. Children with measles-like symptoms are being admitted every day, while many are also recovering after treatment,” he said.
The hospital has no intensive care unit (ICU), Dr Main Uddin added.
