The government is preparing to launch a "Housewife LPG Card" scheme to provide monthly financial assistance for LPG cylinder purchases to low and middle-income households in rural and suburban areas.
The initiative was highlighted in an e-book titled "180 Days of the People's Government," published by the Prime Minister's Press Wing to mark the administration's first six months in office.
According to the e-book, the government has also planned targeted LPG subsidies for low-income rural and marginal families to promote the use of affordable, safe energy over traditional firewood and agricultural waste.
To boost domestic energy production, the government has undertaken an extensive program to drill new gas wells and overhaul existing ones. Petrobangla has set a target to drill and work over 50 wells during the 2025-26 period and an additional 100 wells during 2026-28. Currently, work is underway on 50 wells, with priority given to overhauling 31 old wells.
The e-book emphasized that the administration under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has initiated state reforms alongside political transformation, focusing on economic stability, agricultural revival, social safety expansion, and institutional strengthening over its first 180 days.
