3 accused sentenced to death in Sajib murder case in Ctg

A Chittagong court has ordered the death penalty for three accused in the murder case of Md. Sajib of Pahartali police station in Chittagong city.

The court of the Fifth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md. Tajul Islam gave the verdict on Monday.

The accused sentenced to death are Md. Nurul Amin of Baniachong in Habiganj, Md. Shahjahan of Debidwar in Cumilla and Md. Nurul Alam Tutul of Feni Sadar Upazila.

The court's bench assistant SM Kawsar Sagar said that the charges in the murder case of driver Md. Sajib were proven beyond doubt based on the testimony of 21 witnesses, so the court has ordered the death penalty for the three accused and a fine of Tk 50,000 each.

Accused Nurul Alam Tutul was present in the court when the verdict was announced. Later, Nurul Alam Tutul was ordered to be sent to prison on a warrant of arrest. An arrest warrant has been issued against the absconding Nurul Amin and Shahjahan on a warrant of arrest.

According to the case records, on October 27, 2021, the body of an unidentified person was recovered from Sekandar's agricultural land on the west side of the land acquired by the Industrial Police on the east side of the Toll Road under Pahartali Police Station.

Later, through fingerprints and national identity card, the body was identified as that of Md. Sajib, a resident of Chatkhil, Noakhali.

After the investigation, the police filed a charge sheet in the court against the three accused. On October 11, 2023, charges were framed against the accused and the trial began.
