20-month-old infant raped in Sunamganj

Police have arrested a youth in Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj, on charges of raping a 20-month-old infant.

The arrestee named Morom Ali (23) He was arrested from his home in Babangaon village under Islampur Union of the upazila at around 12:15 AM on Tuesday (August 18).

According to the police, “Morom Ali allegedly took the infant to a house next to her home at around 11:00 AM on August 16. The statement notes that the victim's mother caught him in the act at the scene. When the mother screamed, the accused fled the spot.

The child was initially taken to the Chhatak Upazila Health Complex, where doctors found injury marks on her private parts. She was later transferred to the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Following the incident, the victim's father filed a case at Chhatak Police Station on Monday (August 17)

After the case was filed, a team from Chhatak Police Station conducted a raid and arrested the accused, Morom Ali, from his residence at around 12:15 AM on Tuesday.

Chhatak Police Station confirmed that the arrested individual is being produced before the court following legal procedures. Further legal action will be taken based on a thorough investigation to uncover the full details of the incident.
