Production at one of the two units of the 1,200MW Matarbari Ultra Super Critical Coal-fired Power Plant in Cox’s Bazar was suspended on Wednesday due to a mechanical fault. The affected unit stopped generating electricity at around 12:40pm.
However, the plant’s other unit continued supplying electricity to the national grid. At 2:59pm on Wednesday, the power plant was supplying a total of 540MW to the grid.
Engineers at the plant are working to identify and fix the mechanical fault that caused the unit to shut down.
According to sources at the plant authority, efforts are underway to restart the affected unit within Wednesday. However, the timing of its full return to generation will depend on the completion of the repair work.
