Three killed in Gopalganj road mishap

GOPALGANJ, Aug 19: Three people, including a woman, were killed and at least 20 others injured when a local bus and a truck collided head-on in the Baultali area of the Gopalganj-Tekerhat regional highway in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila on Tuesday afternoon.

Two of the victims were identified as the NDE contracting agency truck driver Nadim Sheikh, 28, son of Shipon Sheikh of Uttar Chandibordi Village in Saltha Upazila of Faridpur District, and security guard of the same agency Abu Hasib Musalli, 19, son of Abdu Kader Musalli of Boro Kathali Village in Rampal Upazila of Bagerhat District. The third victim, a woman believed to be about 65, was not immediately identified.

Shafiul Alam, an inspector at the Baultali police outpost, said one injured passenger was being treated at Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital and 15 others at Gopalganj Medical College Hospital.

Gopalganj Sadar UNO Kaushik Ahmed said financial assistance would be provided to the victims’ families.
