MUNSHIGANJ, Aug 19: A new “Expatriate Card” will be launched by the end of this month to facilitate banking transactions and access to government services for Bangladeshi expatriates, said Nurul Haque Nur, state minister for expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment.
He made the remarks while speaking at a discussion titled “Expectations, Achievements and Future of the July Mass Uprising” at the Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium yesterday afternoon.
The discussion was organised by the district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad.
Nur, also president of Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP), said the card could be used much like an ATM card. It would allow expatriates to conduct banking transactions and make it easier for them to access various government services after returning home.
“Expatriates holding the card will also receive priority when seeking treatment at government hospitals,” he said.
The state minister said the initiative was being taken to address various problems faced by expatriate Bangladeshis and make it easier for them to access government services after returning to the country.
He said the government was working to make services for expatriates more accessible and convenient.
Munshiganj-3 lawmaker Md Kamruzzaman Ratan inaugurated the discussion. Nazmul Hasan, president of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, was the keynote speaker.
GOP General Secretary Hasan Al Mamun and Munshiganj District Council Administrator AKM Eradat Manu attended the event as special guests.
Muhammad Raju, President of the Munshiganj district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, chaired the programme.
