German football star Jamal Musiala has been diagnosed with a neurological condition after losing consciousness twice on the pitch within a span of just four days, raising concerns over the Bayern Munich midfielder’s health ahead of the new season.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder, regarded as one of German football’s brightest talents, spent much of the 2025-26 season sidelined by injury. He had only recently returned to full fitness when he experienced the health issue. Doctors have diagnosed him with “absence seizures”, a type of seizure disorder.

Musiala’s latest episode occurred during a friendly against Heidenheim, when he collapsed just eight minutes after coming on as a substitute. The incident came only four days after he had suffered a similar episode, prompting renewed concern over his condition.

Bayern Munich has made Musiala’s health its top priority. However, specialists treating the player have provided the club with written confirmation that there is currently no medical obstacle to him continuing to play professional football.

Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeness said the club had been aware of Musiala’s condition for some time but was shocked when the episode recurred only four days after the first incident.

“We thought that after taking the medication, it might not happen again so quickly. But when it happened again four days later, I was speechless,” Hoeness told Sky Sports.

Asked whether Musiala would be able to continue playing in the new season, Hoeness said the club had received written clearance from neurologists and other doctors.

“We have written confirmation from the doctors. That was extremely important for us. The neurologists and doctors said there was no obstacle to keeping Jamal in the game. Without this written certification, allowing him to play would have been gross negligence on our part,” he said.

Bayern are not considering any decision to halt Musiala’s career at this stage. Instead, the club is proceeding cautiously in line with medical advice. Hoeness confirmed that Musiala is taking medication regularly and that the club consulted specialists before allowing him to return to action.

However, the recurrence of the episodes within such a short period has made the situation more complicated.

“We have taken every precaution. The specialists have given written permission for him to play. But honestly, I have rarely faced a situation like this where finding a solution is so difficult. This is a new situation, and we have to move forward step by step,” Hoeness said.

Musiala has also received support from his Bayern teammates. Striker Harry Kane said the young midfielder is going through a difficult period and stressed the importance of providing him with emotional support.

“Jamal is going through a difficult time now. He has posted on social media about this little issue. Our main responsibility as a team is to support him mentally,” Kane said.

Kane also praised Musiala for his efforts to recover from last season’s injury, saying he knew how hard the midfielder had worked behind the scenes to return to fitness. He added that the club, Musiala’s friends and his family were all supporting him.

At present, there is no indication that Musiala’s football career is at risk. The immediate priority is to ensure his safety on and off the pitch through medication, treatment and close medical supervision.

Bayern’s message remains clear: the club intends to proceed cautiously and patiently while ensuring that Musiala can continue his career as safely as possible.
