NAOGAON, Aug 21: Judge Mohammad Rokonuzzaman of the District and Sessions Judge Court Naogaon and Special Tribunal-1 on Thursday afternoon sentenced husband Md Shamim Sardar to life imprisonment and fined Tk 50,000, in default, to serve 3 more months’ rigorous imprisonment for killing his wife Halima Khatun over a family dispute and due to the birth of a baby girl.
According to the case details, after their marriage on August 28, 2017, the couple had lived in Dhaka. Later, when Halima gave birth to a daughter, Shamim refused to accept the child. He called his in-laws on December 23, 2019 and asked them to send Halima to her village home in Mohadevpur Upazila of Naogaon.
After leaving the child to his in-laws' house on December 27, 2019, Shamim left for Mohadevpur along with Halima. Later, the police recovered Halima's throat-slit body from a paddy field in Tilakpur Union under Naogaon Sadar Upazila on December 29.
Halima's father filed a murder case with Naogaon Sadar Model Police Station in this incident. The police submitted a charge sheet on March 13, 2022. Later, the court declared the verdict.
