NARAYANGANJ, Aug 21: Four children drowned in a pond in Araihazar Upazila of the district on Thursday noon, with their bodies recovered from Khanpara area of Duptara Union later in the evening, police said.
The victims were Ozaifa, 10, Afsa, 12, Riya Moni, 8, and Rubaiya, 8. They lived in the area and studied at local schools.
Police and relatives said after the children had gone missing since noon, family members searched in the afternoon and found their shoes and sandals beside a pond near Munna's house. They then searched the pond and rescued the children.
Two children were taken to Araihazar Upazila Health Complex and the other two to a local clinic, where doctors declared all four dead.
Shimul, a doctor at the health complex, said all four children had died before being brought to the facilities.
Officer-in-Charge of Araihazar Police Station Sabzel Hossain said police visited the scene and that the families had not filed any complaints.
