India must stop border killings and push-ins if it wants a friendly and neighbourly relationship with Bangladesh, Prime Minister’s Political Assistant Rashed Khan said on Saturday.

He made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists after a meeting with doctors and nurses at Jhenaidah 250-bed General Hospital.

Rashed said Bangladesh-India relations should be based on fairness, equality, mutual respect and the protection of shared interests.

Referring to the Indian ambassador’s remarks that India wants to build relations with the people of Bangladesh, he described the position as “commendable” and said India should develop its relationship with the Bangladeshi people.

Rashed also said the relationship between the two countries should be based on national dignity and mutual interests.

Earlier, he attended a meeting chaired by hospital Superintendent Dr Md Mostafizur Rahman, where various challenges and limitations facing the hospital were discussed.

Civil Surgeon Dr Md Kamruzzaman, District Council Administrator MA Majid, Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB) leader Dr Hasanuzzaman and other officials were present at the meeting.

The remarks were also reported by Star News on Saturday.
