Low pressure likely to form in Bay of Bengal within 24 hours

A low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and Bangladesh within the next 24 hours, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).


The monsoon is currently fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over the north Bay of Bengal, the BMD said in its forecast issued on Saturday.


Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms, accompanied by temporary gusty winds, may occur at many places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at some places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions over the next 24 hours.


Moderate to heavy rainfall may occur at some places across the country. Day and night temperatures may fall slightly.


From 6pm Sunday to 6pm Monday, rain or thunderstorms with temporary gusty winds are likely at many places in Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at some places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions. Moderate to heavy rain may also occur at some places.


From 6pm Monday to 6pm Tuesday, rain or thunderstorms may occur at many places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at some places in Rajshahi, Khulna and Dhaka divisions. Moderate to heavy rain is also likely at some places.


From 6pm Tuesday to 6pm Wednesday, rain or thunderstorms are likely at many places in Rangpur, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at some places in Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka and Khulna divisions. Moderate to heavy rain may occur at some places.


From 6pm Wednesday to 6pm Thursday, rain or thunderstorms are likely at many places in Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at some places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions. Moderate to heavy rain may also occur at some places.


The BMD said the trend of rainfall may continue across the country for the next five days.
