Woman arrested over assault on vet

Police have arrested a 20-year-old woman over the alleged assault of a veterinary doctor at his chamber in Mymensingh city.
The arrested woman was identified as Afrin Rashid Sejuti, daughter of Dr Harun-or-Rashid and a resident of Maskanda Natun Bazar Road in the city.
She was arrested from Akua area of Mymensingh city on Sunday.
According to police, a video titled “Veterinary doctor assaulted in Mymensingh after pet cat dies” went viral on Facebook on Saturday. After the video came to the attention of district police, a team of Kotwali Model Police Station began investigating the incident.
Police said they reviewed the video and used technology and local inquiries to identify those involved. Sejuti was subsequently identified and arrested.
A case was filed with Kotwali Model Police Station based on a complaint by the injured veterinarian, Dr Md Ashikur Rahman. Police said legal proceedings against the arrested woman were underway.
The doctor alleged that the attackers assaulted him after demanding Tk 5 lakh in extortion money. A Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader was expelled from the organisation over alleged involvement in the incident.
Mymensingh Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Md Abdullah Al-Mamun said police were investigating the incident seriously after the video surfaced on social media.
“Police have identified and arrested one person involved in the assault with the help of technology and local inquiries. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest others involved,” he said.
He added that district police were committed to maintaining law and order and taking legal action against anyone involved in violence.
