NATORE, Aug 23: The vessel census that started in the district last Thursday is going on through data collection of various vessels.
The aims and objects of this programme being conducted by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) is to ensure the training of the sailors, safety of vessels, decrease of accidents and assistance to victims after accident, etc. At present, the work is going on simultaneously in five upazilas - Gurudaspur, Lalpur, Baraigram, Naldanga and Singra - of the district.
According to the primary survey of the programme, about 43 engine-driven vessels are moving in different water bodies of the district.
Official source said Deputy Director (DD) of the District Statistics Office is working as a co-ordinator of the programme. Besides, one upazila co-ordinator, two zonal officers and 14 general workers are collecting data. The programme will continue till August 29.
Md Nasir Uddin, DD of the District Statistics Office, said that three-day training was imparted to the concerned of the programme. In this connection, a meeting was also held at the DC office conference room.
