BAGERHAT, Aug 23: Rivals allegedly beat an elderly man to death with sticks and injured his son Qayyum Mallik, 26, in a dispute over a trivial incident in Bhandarkhola Village of Raripara Union in Kachua Upazila of the district at around 9:30 pm on Saturday.
The deceased Bedar Mallik, 65, was the son of Golam Hossain Mallick of the village.
Police arrested four people, including the deceased’s niece Fatema Khatun, her two sons Ramzan and Abdullah and daughter-in-law Lamia Akhter, on charges of involvement in the incident.
Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge of Kachua Police Station Md Al Mamun said that Bedar Mallick had an argument with Fatema over the presence of ducks inside his house. At one point, Fatema and her sons hit Bedar Mallick indiscriminately with bamboo sticks. He was killed on the spot and his son Qayyum was injured.
On information, the police recovered the body and sent it to the Bagerhat District Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. The injured has been admitted to the Kachua Upazila Health Complex.
