Solar panels to be installed on local govt offices: State Minister

The government has taken an initiative to gradually install solar panels on the rooftops of all government offices under the Local Government Division and the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division to generate renewable energy, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam said on Tuesday.

The initiative aims to reduce electricity costs at government institutions while increasing the use of renewable energy and promoting environment-friendly energy management.

The state minister made the remarks at two separate meetings held at the meeting room of the Local Government and Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry on August 25.

He said the solar power initiative would be expanded beyond central offices to government institutions at the district, upazila, municipality and union levels in phases.
