Gatherings, weapons banned around JS Bhaban

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned the carrying of all kinds of weapons and explosives, as well as rallies, processions, marches and demonstrations in and around the Parliament complex in the capital ahead of the third session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.

The information was disclosed in a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed on Tuesday.

According to the notice, the third session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad will begin on August 27. The restrictions have been imposed to maintain peace and order in and around the National Parliament complex in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and ensure the smooth proceedings of the session.

Under the restrictions, the carrying of all kinds of weapons, explosives and other harmful or polluting substances, as well as any kind of gathering, rally, procession, march or demonstration, will remain prohibited in the designated areas from 12 midnight on Wednesday until further notice.

The restricted area includes the stretch from the Mohakhali Crossing on Mymensingh Road through the old airport to the Banglamotor Crossing; from the western end of Banglamotor Link Road to the SAARC Fountain on Hotel Sonargaon Road; from the eastern end of Panthapath through the Green Road intersection to Farmgate; and from Shyamoli Crossing on Mirpur Road to the intersection with Road No. 16 (formerly Road No. 27) in Dhanmondi.

The restrictions will also cover the area from the Rokeya Sarani intersection through the old 9th Division (Aircraft) Crossing to Bijoy Sarani and the Parjatan Crossing; from the eastern end of Indira Road to the western end of Manik Mia Avenue; the restricted area of the National Parliament complex; and all roads and lanes within these boundaries.

The notice said the order will remain in force until the conclusion of the third session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
