BCG rescues 12 fishers from deep sea

KHULNA, Aug 25: Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) rescued 12 fishermen and their fishing boat after an engine failure left them stranded at sea near the Sundarban, an official said on Tuesday.

BCG Media Officer Lt Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said the fishing boat, FV Mayer Doa, was carrying the fishermen about 12 nautical miles south of Dublar Char in the Sundarban when its engine failed around 8 pm on Sunday. The boat remained adrift until it reached an area with mobile network coverage. One of the fishermen contacted the boat owner and informed him of their situation at about 6:30 pm on Monday.
