Humayun Kabir made State Minister per constitution: Law Minister

Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman stated that Humayun Kabir was appointed State Minister for Foreign Affairs (Technocrat) in compliance with the constitution, assuring that no legal breach occurred in his appointment.
The Law Minister made these remarks on Tuesday while responding to questions from journalists after a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony held in the conference room of the Ministry of Social Welfare at the Secretariat.
Questions arose regarding whether Humayun Kabir had surrendered his British citizenship before taking oath as State Minister for Foreign Affairs. Humayun Kabir took his oath as State Minister last Friday.
Prior to this, he served as Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister with the rank of State Minister. Having grown up in the United Kingdom since childhood, several UK BNP leaders confirmed that Humayun Kabir holds British citizenship. However, they could not confirm whether he renounced his UK citizenship before assuming office as State Minister for Foreign Affairs.
When journalists asked whether Humayun Kabir took the oath as State Minister for Foreign Affairs without renouncing his British citizenship, the Law Minister said, "First of all, what is in the law remains as it is. Secondly, what this government has done was done strictly following the constitution. No violation has occurred here. Whatever we did was done constitutionally... When the oath was administered, we did it constitutionally."
Speaking at the function, the Law Minister stated that accessing legal aid is a fundamental human and basic right for everyone. He noted that the concept of state-level legal aid in the country was initiated under the leadership of the late former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. She wanted the state to conduct legal battles on behalf of those who lacked the financial capability to fight in court, leading to the eventual establishment of the current National Legal Aid Services Organization.
A tripartite MoU was signed as part of inter-institutional cooperation to ensure social protection, rehabilitation, access to justice, and integrated services for underprivileged women, children, and vulnerable communities in the country.
The MoU was signed among the Department of Social Services under the Ministry of Social Welfare, the Department of Women Affairs under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, and the National Legal Aid Services Organization under the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
Minister for Social Welfare A Z M Zahid Hossain, State Minister for Social Welfare Farjana Sharmin, Social Welfare Secretary Mohammad Abu Yousuf, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Secretary Yasmin Parveen, and Law and Justice Division Secretary Liaquat Ali Miah were present at the event.
