Load-shedding of over 2,500 MW forecast for Friday

A power shortage could lead to a maximum of 2,695 megawatts (MW) of load-shedding across Bangladesh on Friday (August 28), according to data from the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh PLC (PGCB).

According to the power system’s “Forecast Scenario,” electricity demand is expected to reach 17,140 MW at 11pm, while generation is projected at 14,317 MW, resulting in a forecasted shortfall of 2,695 MW.

The forecast indicates that the power deficit could increase after noon. Load-shedding is projected at 363 MW at noon, 1,141 MW at 1pm and 941 MW at 3pm. The figures are expected to stand at 738 MW at 4pm and 527 MW at 5pm.

The deficit could rise sharply in the evening as electricity demand increases. Load-shedding is forecast at 268 MW at 6:30pm, rising to 1,008 MW at 7pm, 1,704 MW at 7:30pm and 1,744 MW at 8pm.

According to the forecast, load-shedding could reach 2,133 MW at 9pm and 2,016 MW at 10pm, before climbing to the day’s highest level of 2,695 MW at 11pm.

The country has already been experiencing significant pressure on its power supply this month. At different times in August, reported load-shedding has exceeded 2,000 MW to 3,000 MW.
